Man shot and killed in Scott Township, shooter turns himself in

A 23-year-old man that shot and killed a 32-year-old man in Scott Township turned himself into police Wednesday evening.

According to the criminal complaint, detectives learned an employee at the nearby Taco Bell, 32-year-old Dorian Carver was written up by his manager, 23 year-old Zairyre Simmons for a company violation. The complaint said the two argued inside the employee area and the argument made its way into the dining area.

Someone separated them from one another. Carver ran outside to the Northwestern Mutual office. Simmons grabbed his jacket and ran after him. Carver was trying to get away but Simmons shot him inside the office foyer.

Police said the gunman ran away which caused a lockdown around the area for 2 hours. Police recovered a black and silver handgun in a vacant building that they are tying back to Simmons.

County police said Simmons turned himself in on Wednesday around 7:45 p.m. Simmons is being charged with criminal homicide and firearms violations.
