
An officer-involved shooting and SWAT situation in Allentown are over after a standoff Friday morning, leaving a suspect dead.
Allegheny County and Pittsburgh Police, along with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s officers were all on the scene in the 800 block of East Warrington Avenue for reports of a barricaded suspect inside a residence.
County Police say the situation began on Christmas Eve when they received reports of a man outside the residence with a gun. When officers went up to the man, he went into an apartment building.
Through investigation, police were able to identify the man as a 45-year-old man with previous firearm felonies.
On Friday morning, police arrived back at the scene with a search warrant just after 6.
While trying to serve a warrant, the suspect fired shots at officers. They returned fire and the man barricaded himself inside.
After a second officer-involved shooting, the unidentified suspect was hit and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allegheny County Police say no officers were injured during the standoff.
Officers were able to clear the area and local residents were placed on Pittsburgh Regional Transit buses.
The situation ended before 10 a.m.
