Anna Shaffer has a lot to be proud of, and so do her parents. When I say this young lady has been through a lot over the last year, you have no idea.

Watch the video on this page to meet this special 17-year-old who nearly died one year ago. We're celebrating her recovery with a special Taylor Swift-themed Cake Walk from our friends at Oakmont Bakery!

One year ago, she nearly died after coming down with the flu that turned into pneumonia and severely damaged her lungs. Things were so severe, doctors placed her on the list to receive a double lung transplant.

She had to be put on life support, using a ventilator to help her breathe. While she spent more than 100 days in the hospital, she set a new milestone that no one had ever done before at UPMC Children's Hospital. She became the first patient there to walk while on life support while she continued therapy.

In April, the Shaffer family got some amazing news. Anna's left lung had begun healing. It was doing so well they actually took her off the transplant list but did have to remove her right lung.

You can see why her mom, Erin, calls her her "little miracle". Anna's recovery has gone so well that she's back to class at Kiski Area High School where she's a junior. She's also in the Cosmetology program at the Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center.

If you didn't catch it, Anna is a big Taylor Swift fan. The amazing team at Oakmont Bakery put together this delicious creation to celebrate Anna and everything she's accomplished.

By the way, mom tells us there's even more good news coming in Anna's recovery. She should be able to get her tracheostomy removed after the holidays.
