Bird lovers in the Pittsburgh area were saddened to learn the egg laid in the Hays bald eagle nest cracked prematurely early Tuesday.
But there is some good news elsewhere.
The Peregrine Falcons on top of the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of Learning welcomed another egg on Tuesday.
Female Carla laid a third egg just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Carla will spend most of her time on the eggs, incubating them. Her partner, Ecco may help Carla from time to time when she needs to rest or during bad weather.
This is the first hatching season for Carla.
Ecco was paired with female Morela the past three years. Morela did not lay any eggs last year and was last seen on camera in May 2023.
The eggs will continue to be incubated for a little over a month and should hatch later in April.
