I just got this email and I had to share it. I left out names and numbers because we’re here to help people, not hurt people. It’s a cry for help. It’s self-explanatory. But it also defines why I’m here, why we’re in this together and why we must make a difference. Again, no names, no details, just the painful cry for help.
“Marty, I listen to you every single day. I wanted to reach out about something tragic that has happened. Both grandsons, ages 20 and 22 had COVID a couple months back. My younger grandson developed a severe mental disorder and is in Western Psych at the moment. Not doing well. Even more tragic, my older grandson committed suicide on Monday. He couldn't deal with it anymore. I am so heartbroken.”
Its message is less than 100 words. Still, it hit me like a hammer to my heart. How did this happen? Why did it happen? What can we do to help?
I promise you. I will talk to this woman. I promise you I will help her. I have to.
I know you would do the same. The poor woman is so distraught she can’t talk right now. It’s that bad.
Next time you want to complain about the line at the drive through, or not enough candles on your cake, or you got a pickle instead of lettuce, remember this email. The great forces that create havoc in so many lives are lurking all around us. I will keep you in the loop and let you know how this sweet woman who wrote the note is holding up and how her grandson is doing.
It’s what GetMarty is all about. If you need me, please email me at GetMarty@kdkaradio.com.
