Police in California, PA say the high school was a victim of a swatting incident Friday morning.
California Area School District says they received a phone call just after 11:30 a.m. The voice was a young female saying they needed $2,000 in a red container or they were going to be “shooting the school up and killing themselves.”
Building on the campus were secured and school officials called 911.
Both police and the district say the threat is not credible and officers will be on campus until the end of the school day.
If parents and guardians want to pick up their child, then can, but they will not be able to go on campus and will have to show their ID “at the top of the hill.”
“Their child will be secured and brought to them,” the district said in a statement.
The district says while they believe the threat is not credible, they treat all threats against the school.
School clubs and “Beyond the Bell” programs are cancelled and the person that made the threatening call faces charges.
