The temporary home of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill has received a letter threatening the Jewish community.
It’s reportedly on over several letters mailed to different organizations in the Pittsburgh Jewish Community.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh released the following statement to KDKA Radio:
The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is aware that several Jewish organizations in our community have received threatening letters by mail. While deeply disturbing, we want to assure our community that safety and security remain our top priority.
We are in close contact with the FBI and law enforcement partners, who are actively investigating these threats. Our Federation’s security team continues to monitor the situation closely and is working to ensure that all Jewish institutions remain protected.
The final designs for the new Tree of Life were just unveiled and construction is set to begin in early 2026.
The Groundbreaking happened over a year ago, but plans were reimagined to look at the project’s size cost and impact on the Squirrel Hill community, scaling construction back by 40 percent.
Over $45 million of the $60 million needed for the project has been raised.
The letter also come on the same day that Israel launched a strike targeting Hamas' leadership in Qatar.
