Both cases are handled by the law firm Swensen & Perer, and cite a number of inspections from 1997 through 2021, where problems with the structure were reported.

All of the lawsuits are being filed against the City of Pittsburgh for alleging negligence for their alleged failure to maintain Fern Hollow Bridge.

Four other people who were on the bridge when it gave way last year have also filed suits, or provided notices that they intend to do so.
