Three Western PA Penn State Campuses could be on chopping block

There is a proposal from Penn State to close seven satellite campuses and three of those are here in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The three with local ties are Fayette, New Kensington and Shenango.

The other campuses are Dubois, Mont Alto, Wilkes-Barre and York.

Penn State isn't happy that this list has been leaked and the Board of Trustees must hold a public vote on closures which hasn't happened yet.

A statement on university's website says until the board votes on the closures, nothing is final.

A statement released by the university says the board recognizes "how personal this decision is to every member of our Commonwealth Campus community, and our broader Penn State family. That someone would share this information with the media, knowing how this news would impact our campus communities, is truly disappointing.”

If approved, over 1,100 students at the Fayette, New Kensington and Shenango campuses would be affected.
