Tight races shaping up for Congress in Allegheny County

Residents in parts of Allegheny and Beaver Counties will decide on a tight race for their next US Representative and 12th Congressional District.

The race to replace Conor Lamb in the 17th Congressional District is between Democrat Chris Deluzio and Republican Jeremy Shaffer.

While greeting voters at North Hills Middle School Tuesday, Deluzio highlighted his focus on union jobs and growing industry in the US,

"I've been talking about from the beginning about brining our manufacturing, our supply chains, and our jobs back to bring down cost, to stand up to these big corporations and that's been a big contrast in my race, running against a corporate executive."

But outside his polling place in North Park, Shaffer claims his views and values will appeal to more people,

"We've had a positive centered around solving the real problems people face. He's [Deluizo] ran a campaign from the extreme left wing at this point. I think voters will resonate with someone who wants to work from the middle out."

Voters in the newly redrawn 12th Congressional District will choose between Democrat Summer Lee and Republican Mike Doyle.

The Doyle campaign and it's supporters have longed claimed Lee's views are too extreme for the office.

After voting at Plum High School Tuesday, Doyle said he thinks voters will fall more in line with his values,

"The majority of the people in this district do not subscribe to those [Lee's] stances and those views. I'm a traditional, reasonable republican."

But Lee, who has experience as a state representative, attorney and labor organizer believes her track record speaks for itself,

"That's work that's just rooted in our working-class values, rooted in western Pennsylvania values and hopefully people will see how visible we've been."

The race was underscored by public confusion over candidate Mike Doyle, and current Congressman democrat Mike Doyle, who is retiring at the end of his term. While prognosticators are considering the race for representative a toss-up.
