Former Congressman and PA State Senator Tim Murphy died Sunday at his home from an apparent heart attack.
Murphy was a practicing psychologist before entering politics.
On the Big K Morning Show, political analyst Jon Delano said when Murphy was in the U.S. House he introduced the Helping Families In Mental Health Crisis Act.
“He felt strong, focused more attention on mental health policy, in particularly with respect to children,” said Delano.
Political analyst Lenny McAllister said he and Murphy had many conversations about mental health, “and how we could use public policy in ways to improve public health for all Americans, but particularly after a while we would talk about younger Americans.”
Murphy was also a strong supporter of veterans.
He represented Pennsylvania's 18th district for 15 years. He resigned in 2017 after asking a woman he had an affair with to get an abortion when it was believed she was pregnant.
Murphy was a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus.
Tim Murphy was 73.
