It's been two years since the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Squirrel Hill.
Such a tragedy is hard to move on from said Tree of Life Rabbi Jeffrey Myers. Even well-intended remembrances.
"It's not that all of that love is not appreciated, it is," he said. "It just can sometimes make it hard to heal."
The phrase Stronger Than Hate came to be associated with the tragedy. Myers questions how strong we really are. "It's a lovely phrase, but it's simply something in writing. What have we done to prove that to be true?"
On Monday, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto called for a moment of silence citywide at 9:54am Tuesday - when the shooting started.
"There's a lot of hate out there right now and certainly we can each do a little bit to lessen it," he said.
COVID has forced this year's commemoration to YouTube at 7pm.
On October 27, 2018, a man opened fire at the synagogue killing 11 people and wounding several others.
Robert Bowers, a truck drive from Baldwin, was charged in the shooting. He faces more than 60 counts of criminal charges.
Earlier this year, Pittsburgh Police officer Timothy Matson returned to duty after being injured during the shooting.
