President Trump is calling on grocery chains to lower prices as Americans face an affordability crisis.
The president says Giant Eagle is a “great American grocery company” that is “stepping up in a big and bold way” to lower costs for working families.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump says prices on more than 300 products will be lowered through Labor Day, and urged other grocery chains to “immediately follow the lead” of Giant Eagle and Walmart.
Trump says the move will help make America “more affordable than ever before.”
A recent survey found 95 percent of Americans believe the country is facing an affordability crisis, as the cost of groceries continues to be a concern for shoppers.
Giant Eagle announced the price cuts earlier this month, before the president's post.
A new study ranks Kroger number one for grocery prices, with the cheapest basket among four major chains.
The company had the lowest price on 10 of 15 store-brand essentials.
