Students attending Penn West and other state run schools will be paying more in the fall, but the tuition hike may be temporary.
The $139 tuition increase for the fall comes with the condition that if the final state budget provides the State System of Higher Education with the $40M in funding it sought, then it would rebate the fall tuition and rollback the hike for the spring.
State Senator Camera Bartolotta says tuition is already too expensive for in-state students.
"We need to do a better job of teaching the kids in our state with our own schools," she told KDKA.
She says they still haven't looked at the education part of the budget, saying the plan sent over by the House this week amounted to just an appropriations bill since it didn't include how to pay for it.
