Two new African Penguin chicks have hatched at the National Aviary on the North Side.

The two new chicks come a little over a year after the hatching of Pierogi.

Their parents are Patrick and her mate Owen and are sibling of Pierogi.

The National Aviary says the hatching is important because African Penguins are and endangered species with populations declining in the wild.

African Penguins reach their adult size at three months old and grow to around 18 inches tall, weighing 10 pounds.

The Aviary says the penguins are monomorphic, which means males and females are very similar.

A DNA test will be done to determine their sex once they reach their adult size.
