Two lions at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Zoo officials.
The Zoo says both animals were displaying symptoms occasionally, but were otherwise normal.
However, the decision to test all of their lions was made because there were positive cases at other zoos.
“The risk of infection between zoo animals and guests is very low as we do not allow any of our visitors to come within close proximity to any of our cats,” said Dr. Barbara Baker, President and CEO of the zoo.
The Zoo believes the animals were likely exposed to the virus through an asymptomatic employee.
The Zoo says all animals and staff are being closely monitored as the pandemic continues.
