Two Port Authority of Allegheny County employees have died as a result of COVID-19.
"Today, our hearts are broken. We are mourning the loss of two members of the Port Authority family," said Port Authority CEO Katharine Kelleman. "On behalf of Port Authority's Board and the entire agency, we extend our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones. Their commitment to serve customers was truly emblematic of all of our frontline employees."
One of the employees, a 57-year-old man, was an operator with the Port Authority for 21 years. He last worked out of the East Liberty garage. He reportedly tested positive on Friday, December 4 and died on Sunday, December 6.
The other was a 34-year-old operator who was with the Authority for seven years. He last worked out of the Collier garage. He reportedly tested positive November 26 and died on Monday, December 7.
The Port Authority has had 186 employees test positive for the virus - 127 of those since November 1.
