Nippon Steel's $15 billion dollar planned buyout of U.S. Steel potentially gets a new shot at life.
Three months after former President Joe Biden vetoed the takeover, which both he and Donald Trump opposed, President Donald Trump has issued a memorandum directing the body that reviews investment by foreign companies to take another look at the proposed purchase.
The 45-day review will look at things like national security risks and then detail any it may find.
Trump had said during his campaign that he opposed the Nippon Steel deal, and shortly after taking office appeared to support what he called an "investment in" rather than a buyout of the Pittsburgh-based company.
