$155 million worth of Pennsylvania Turnpike Tolls were uncollected over the past fiscal year, a 48% increase from the end of the 2020 fiscal year.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the increase is not due to more motorists not paying their tolls.
A turnpike spokesperson attributes it to a 45% surcharge for motorists who don’t use the prepaid EZ pass transponder, traffic surpassing pre-pandemic levels, and a 5% toll increase by the agency two years in a row.
The percentage of motorists who didn't pay their tolls remained at about 6.5.
