PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - The Chief Medical Officer of Geisinger Health, Dr. Gerald Maloney, said the unvaccinated are contributing to new variants of the coronavirus, during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Monday.
"I worry about the next variant - the one that we don't know about," said Maloney. "It's the unvaccinated people that allow the variants to form because that's where the virus replicates."
Maloney said new variants have the potential of being more severe than anything we have seen thus far.
"So by my not getting vaccinated, not only can I infect any number of people, but I can also contribute to the development of the next variant," said Maloney.
