A Monroeville Police officer is recovering this morning after he was shot during a confrontation with a suspect Friday.

Monroeville Police said in a social media post Sunday night their officer is home recovering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The chase began in Turtle Creek as officers tried to stop a driver in an alleged stolen car.

The Westmoreland County DA's office says the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Bruce Alvarado, refused to stop.

The chase ended in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.

As officers approached the car, Alvarado allegedly did not comply with commands to get out of the car and fired multiple shots into a Monroeville Police cruiser.

An officer inside was shot in the arm and the leg.

Alvarado was then taken into custody and remains in the Westmoreland County Prison without bail.

He faces numerous charges.
