UPMC is lifting its mask requirements Thursday.

In a note to employees, UPMC said it's because there is a decreased risk of transmission of COVID, flu and RSV.

That lifts a mandate made back in December.

The requirements will be reinstated if the healthcare system deems necessary, but in the meantime will be optional.

Staff members who did not get a flu shot this year will still be required to wear a mask through the end of flu season.
