UPMC moving into Eastern Ohio

UPMC may soon expand its footprint into Eastern Ohio.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has entered into a nonbinding agreement with CommonSpirit Health, the parent organization of Trinity Health System.

Trinity operates hospitals in Steubenville, Dennison, and St.
Clairsville, as well as urgent care clinics, primary care offices, and a cancer center.

In a statement provided to KDKA Radio, a UPMC spokesperson said

“UPMC looks forward to pursuing the integration of Trinity Health System into the UPMC system, building on the history of our physician and clinical teams’ collaboration to preserve and enhance high-quality health care for local communities served by Trinity. As Trinity Health System and UPMC move forward with the process, including a customary due diligence period and regulatory review, we will keep our stakeholders and community updated of key developments.”

Requests for comment from CommonSpirit Health have not yet been returned.
