Reverberations from the Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University were just starting to fade when the Pittsburgh area got even more promising economic news this week.
- Developer Lucas Piatt says the Esplanade is just weeks away from first phase groundbreaking. The Piatt Companies $740 million project will transform another stretch of the North Shore with housing, retail and entertainment venues.
- Walnut Capital’s Bakery Square expansion now has a green light from City Council after years of determined effort by Todd Reidbord. $500 million in business, retail and housing is planned for the 14-acre development.
- Finally, state Senator Nick Pisciottano has introduced a bill to provide tax incentives to encourage development in the Mon Valley. He wants to capitalize on the opportunities created by the US Steel/Nippon Steel merger.
Taken together, this month’s announcements are more proof the Pittsburgh area economy is on a trajectory for years of growth and prosperity.
