A man is behind bars for allegedly causing a violent disturbance outside the Rivertown Shopping Center in Verona Thursday afternoon.
Verona Police say they were called to the scene after a highly intoxicated individual began shouting racial slurs at people.
When officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, they say he became combative and initiated a violent struggle.
In the ensuring altercation, one police officer was injured and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The suspect was apprehended and is in the Allegheny County Jail.
He's charged with ethnic intimidation, aggravated assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.
