Veteran Pittsburgh news anchor to retire in February

After 30 years on Pittsburgh television one news anchor is calling it a career.

WTAE’s Michelle Wright announced on Thursday that she plans to retire at the end of February.

“Reaching this decision to step away has been bittersweet. It has been a thrill to work alongside some of the best journalists in the business and I look forward to supporting this news team as a viewer for years to come,” Wright said via a release from WTAE. “I’m grateful for my time here, but most of all I’m honored the viewers of western Pennsylvania trusted me every day to tell their stories.”

Wright joined Channel 4 in 1994 and over the past 31 years, has anchored every daypart on WTAE, winning three regional Emmy awards along the way.

In addition to anchoring, Wright was an adjunct professor at Point Park University in their broadcasting department and has worked at many charity events including WTAE’s Project Bundle Up.

“Michelle is one of Pittsburgh’s most respected news anchors – and a driving force behind this team’s impactful work. From her efforts in the newsroom to her time as an adjunct professor at Point Park University, Michelle has shaped countless young broadcasters and left a remarkable legacy,” said WTAE News Director Baylor Long.

Wright is currently a morning anchor on Channel 4.
