Veterans honored at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies amid shutdown

The Federal Government shutdown didn't deter about two dozen people from holding their own Veteran's Day ceremony at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

It was all organized through social media as supporters of the veterans wanted to make sure the annual event took place, even if it meant doing it on their own.

“It shows that there’re an awful lot of people in this country that really do respect and honor our veterans so, it was heartwarming,” said Carol Biers of West Mifflin who was in attendance

The day is important to her because not only does she have several veterans in her family, but her mother, who started an auxiliary, also passed away on Veteran's Day.

Biers also led those who attended in a brief prayer to remember the service members buried at the cemetery.
