Monday marked two years since a 15-year-old Central Catholic student was killed at a hayride in North Versailles.
15-year-old Steven Eason died after he was shot at Haunted Hills Hayride on Sept. 11, 2021. No arrests have been made.
Eason's mother Shantel Pizaro told the Big K Morning Show it has been a frustrating and heartbreaking two years since losing her son, who has a twin sister.
"It's kind of bittersweet," Pizaro said. "I'm so proud of her and I love all the things she's doing, but I should be making these milestones with two children, not one."
Pizaro believes her son was trying to break up a fight when he was shot.
She said hundreds likely saw at least part of what happened, and others have video. Still, few are coming forward.
"People aren't talking. I think it's the environment and the culture that these kids are being taught don't talk to the police. Be quiet. Mind your business."
As she continues to fight for answers, Pizaro and her family have organized community events to honor Eason's memory. This year, they're hosting a free family fun day, including food, music and entertainment.
"Steven loves to spend time with family and his friends," Pizaro said. "This year, this is how we decided to honor Steven."
The event is Sunday, Sept. 17 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Penn Hills Community Park.
