The city's department of Parks and Recreation will honor Juneteenth and African-American heritage with their finale event today, hosted by the city and our sister station, WAMO 107.3.

The event will include lots of family-friendly fun from 12-4 at Highland Park.

At 3:00, the festivities will recognize WAMO on-air host Ki Ki Jones for her lasting impact and contributions to the city.

Ki Ki spoke with KDKA Radio about why she feels honored to be recognized in this way:

"I'm just doing what I'm known to do like through my family, my grandmother, my father, we've just been a family that gave back to the community and since being with WAMO since I was in my early 20s, I'm not in my 20s now. It's just something that I've learned to do is give back and serve my community," she said.

WAMO has been hosting Pittsburgh Juneteenth celebrations for over 30 years, with the first organized event back in 1993.
