A Washington County man received a commemorative check on Tuesday morning after recently winning a Cash 5 jackpot worth $1 million.
70-year-old winner Michael Matyas says he didn’t know he won until July 21, two days after the drawing.
Matyas and Pennsylvania Lottery officials were on hand at the Speer, PA Exxon location for the check presentation.
After checking his ticket, Matyas was taken aback and didn’t believe what he saw. He says he had his twin brother take a look at the ticket to confirm that he had actually won $1 million.
After helping his family out and paying some bills, Matyas says he plans to spend a lot of time on the golf course.
He retired 10 years ago and recently retired from a part-time job.
“Congratulations to Michael for winning this prize! We are incredibly excited for him,” said Cari Mackesy, manager of Giant Penn LLC (Exxon). “We are excited that a local community member will get to enjoy this. Our sincerest congratulations to him!”
