Website shows real-time delays during Parkway East closure

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 8, 2026

PennDOT is adding a new tool to help drivers get around once the Parkway East closes on Friday night.

There's a new Commercial Street Bridge page set up online.

Click on the yellow Pittsburgh I-376 Closure Coming banner and the page will show you current travel times on the posted detours.

PennDOT District 11 District Executive Jason Zang says they're on the left side of your screen.

“What you can do is you can click on to any of those and it will show you the three detours that we have been talking about, the local, the interstate and then, taking the Turnpike to Route 28,” said Zang. “It highlights them on the map and it give you real-time travel time.”

They're color coded so you can see which option makes the most sense for your trip. But be sure to check in advance, they don't want you to be distracted while you're behind the wheel.

Once the Parkway East closes between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Edgewood/Swissvale it will remain shut down through August 3.

Crews will be demolishing the old Commercial Street Bridge and then sliding in the new one that was build right next to it.
