The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office have released the name of the armed man shot and killed by a Wilkinsburg police officer.
Police are working to figure out whether the shooting of 38-year-old Jonathan Simmons was justified.
Police say the officer was patrolling the area near the intersection of Swissvale and Ross Avenues Tuesday afternoon when the suspect, Simmons, approached them with a gun.
Police say Simmons was showing the gun to the officer while taunting the officer. The officer then left then left his vehicle and requested the suspect drop the gun. When he didn’t, that is when the officer fired, hitting Simmons in the chest.
Simmons later died at the hospital.
Wilkinsburg's mayor says right now, proper protocol is being followed.
