Dormont woman accused of stealing over $100k from her 91-year-old mother

A Dormont woman is accused of stealing over $100,000 from her aging mother.

The DA's office says 70-year-old Loreen Nardozi has had power of attorney over her 91-year-old mother for nine years and has been using the money for her own personal benefit.

Meanwhile, her mother was removed from a nursing home after close to 25-thousand dollars in bills had stacked up.

Nardozi's preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 3.

Similar charges were announced yesterday against a Pittsburgh man accused of raiding his grandmother's finances to the tune of $400,000.

“Sadly, this is another shameful example of someone taking advantage of a care-dependent person,” said District Attorney Stephen Zappala. “What this demonstrates, in part, is that we have a woefully inadequate response, especially undue delay, to crimes committed against our most vulnerable population. Our office represents the vulnerable victims, who are regularly preyed upon due to their circumstances, and the very least we can do is seek justice for them.”
