A pink-colored gun was stopped by TSA officers at Pittsburgh International Airport on Wednesday.
Officials say the pink .380 caliber handgun was loaded with six bullets when it was stopped at a security checkpoint.
“This is an instance in which the traveler told us that she typically has the firearm with her on any given day and that she forgot to remove it from her carry-on before heading to the airport,” explained Gerardo Spero, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Pennsylvania. “If you own a firearm, you need to know where it is at all times. That’s an important part of being a responsible gun owner. Now this individual faces a stiff federal financial penalty.”
It’s the fourth gun that TSA has stopped at the airport, so far, in 2025.
Last year, 42 guns were stopped at Pittsburgh International, the most in all of Pennsylvania. That number was also two shy of the record set in 2023.
Civil penalties for trying to bring a gun through an airport checkpoint can reach $15,000.
