Work on long Parkway East project begins Monday

A month-long complete closure of the road is planned for later this summer

Get ready for the first phase of Parkway East work this year. It's starting on Monday.

Single lane closures will start in each direction weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Edgewood/Swissvale and Churchill.

And daylight brings shoulder closures.

Added to the mix will be, as needed, traffic shifts weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Edgewood/Swissvale, Wilkinsburg and Churchill interchange ramps, and the Eastbound ramps to Forest Hills and Greensburg Pike.

This is all leading up to this year's biggest project, a month-long closure of the Parkway.

PennDOT's Jason Zang warned drivers at a November news conference to start planning for that now.

He said if you’re able to work from home, you might want to strongly consider it when the full closure happens.
