Two men inside a Department of Public Works truck are safe after an accident in Elliot Monday afternoon.
Department of Public Safety spokesperson Cara Cruz tells KDKA Radio two men were in a DPW truck around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of Herschel and Kerr Streets when they hit a low-hanging wire, bringing the power lines down.
“The wire happened to catch the back of the truck and pulled down a telephone pole,” said Cruz.
The workers immediately called their supervisor and remained inside the truck to avoid any potential electrocution.
Duquesne Light arrived about a half hour later and was able to turn off power and the workers were able to get out of the truck safely.
“I think after the kind of week we’ve had in the City of Pittsburgh, I think we all learned a lot about trees and power lines and the importance of staying . . . in your vehicle and calling 911,” added Cruz.
After powerful storms moved through the area last Tuesday, a man was electrocuted by a live wire on the South Side.
