On the final Friday without conference games in the region, some massive individual performances were showcased throughout the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League this weekend.
This season, KDKA Radio will again nominate players each week to join the KDKA Radio Super 7 Awards watch list. Every Monday, a new crop of players will be unveiled based on their efforts that previous Friday night. At the end of the year, KDKA Radio will announce the winners of the award for each WPIAL classification, as well as the Pittsburgh City League.
Here are the top performances from Week 3:
Jaron McKinney, Woodland Hills
McKinney burst onto the scene in Week 1 when he lit up New Castle in Woodland Hills’ season-opening victory.
On Friday, he once again posted a massive passing night, throwing for 248 yards and five touchdowns in a 33-25 win over North Allegheny.
Through three games, McKinney has passed for nine touchdowns and rushed for another.
Tyler Eber, Thomas Jefferson
Friday’s matchup between Thomas Jefferson and McKeesport became a battle of a quick strike running back against a workhorse.
In the end, the workhorse’s team picked up the win.
Eber ran 41 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns, including the winning score in the fourth quarter, as the Jaguars bested Kemon Spell and McKeesport 40-33.
Eber, an all-state running back, has received an offer from Bucknell.
Spell ran for 296 yards and four touchdowns on just 18 carries in the loss.
Owen Weagraff, Chartiers Valley
Weagraff put on an aerial show on Friday, while also contributing plenty with his legs.
The senior passed for 353 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 56 yards and two more scores in a 38-24 win over Mars.
Also a baseball player, Weagraff helped the Colts to their first win following a pair of competitive losses to open the season.
Kaden Bailey, Freedom
Bailey racked up one of the biggest nights ever seen in his region.
The senior tailback racked up 397 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns in a thrilling 55-48 win over Deer Lakes.
The performance set a record for the most rushing yards by a player in Beaver Valley history.
Bailey has now rushed for a WPIAL-leading 719 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Bulldogs, which are 3-0.
