The WPIAL is investigating after allegations of racist language used during a high school football playoff game last weekend.
In a release, WPIAL says the racist remarks were made during the game between Burrell and Mohawk November 3.
“The school administrations of Burrell and Mohawk are gathering information from the game and submitting it to the WPIAL Equity Council for Diversity, Inclusion, & Cultural Competency,” the WPIAL said in a statement. “The Council will review the information once received and make a recommendation to the WPIAL Board of Directors.”
Burrell head coach Shawn Liotta claims Mohawk players used the slurs.
Liotta was ejected from the game after confronting the players.
Results of the investigations and possible punishments will be announced when available.
