In the Allegheny County district attorney's race, Stephen Zappala was re-elected to a 7th term.
Initially it looked like it was going to be a good night for the progressive Democrat, Matt Dugan.
But in the end, it was long-term incumbent Stephen Zappala who declared victory, just before 11:00. He thanked the voters of Allegheny County and laid out his plans for his next term.
“One of the first orders of business is to explore the development of a municipal authority for the South Side and the South Side Flats,” said Zappala.
The South Side has been targeted by Pittsburgh Police after an uptick in violent crime.
The enforcement has been having a positive influence in the area.
In his concession speech, Dugan told supporters that despite his loss, he is proud of the campaign he ran.
“Proud of the message we brought, unapologetically, across the county, demanding reform in our system,” said Dugan.
Zappala has been District Attorney since 1998.
