PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) PA Congressman Mike Doyle joined KDKA Radio's Lynn Hayes-Freeland on Thursday to discuss the actions that must be taken after protesters stormed and entered the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday afternoon.
Protestors aimed to disrupt congress as they validated the electoral votes in favor of President Elect Joe Biden.
Primarily, Doyle and multiple colleagues have written a letter to Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25thAmendment and remove President Donald Trump.
Doyle placed full blame of the protest and subsequent breaching of the Capitol Building, on President Trump due to his actions since the election was not called in his favor.
After weeks of constant motions to reverse election results and statements that the election was "stolen" from him, Trump supporters joined in Washington for their protests.
"He is personally responsible for his actions," Doyle said. "He caused this to happen. He continually misleads people, telling them that he won in a landslide, that the race was stolen from him."
In discussing the use of the 25th Amendment, Doyle stated that the president has enablers in congress and everyone needs to be held accountable.
"What he did is unforgivable in my mind," Doyle said. "He caused an insurrection at the U.S. Capital."
"A lot of us feel there has to be some accountability for what he did."
Doyle is not alone in his aim to have the President removed immediately, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also called for invoking the 25th Amendment, along with other democratic leaders.
To invoke the 25th Amendment, Vice President Pence would have to convene the cabinet and conclude that the president is unfit to hold office.
Theoretically, Pence could enact the 25th Amendment and become temporary president within a day.
