
A shooting at a grocery store in a southern Washington city has left at least one person dead, according to local authorities.
The shooting occurred at a Fred Meyer grocery store in the city of Richland, Washington.
According to Dennis Morris with the Benton County coroner’s office, they have been notified of at least one casualty at the store, CNN reported.
Details remain scant, but reports of an active shooter at the grocery store resulted in several area schools within the vicinity being shut down.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives received a call for assistance in the situation, the agency confirmed with CNN.
Special agents from the ATF Yakima, Washington, field office have been sent to support the Richland Police Department with the active shooter investigation, CNN reported.
The Richland Police Department shared on social media that anyone in the area should stay away.
Police also shared a photo of an initial suspect, asking for assistance in identifying them.
There are no further details at this time about how many have been shot, but the FBI and state patrol are currently assisting in the investigation.
