Eleven people were hospitalized on Tuesday after being injured during “severe turbulence” onboard a Delta Airlines flight headed to Atlanta, according to the company.
A Delta spokesperson shared the news in a statement obtained by NBC News. The flight was reportedly carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew members on a flight from Milan when the turbulence hit.
Among the 11 people injured were both crew and passengers, the spokesperson shared. The extent of their injuries was not immediately made known.
“Delta Care Team members are mobilizing to connect with customers on Delta Flight 175 that experienced severe turbulence before landing safely in Atlanta Tuesday,” a spokesperson told CNN.
The Federal Aviation Agency shared that the flight was about 40 miles from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport when the rough air hit. It was eventually able to land safely.
“Our priority is taking care of our customers and crew who sustained injuries. We are grateful for the first responders who met the aircraft to provide medical attention and who are transporting the injured to the hospital,” the Delta spokesperson added.
