Earlier this month, the brand announced a new campaign featuring the female M&M’s spokescandies on packages in order to support women in creative industries.

The candy has instead caused an outcry from right-wing media outlets like Fox News and, most notably, Tucker Carlson, who heavily criticized one of the spokescandies for changing its shoes last year.

So M&Ms announced that actress/comedian Maya Rudolph will be the spokesperson moving forward.

A&W Restaurants parodied the announcements announcing they are making a change to its “polarizing” mascot, Rooty the Great Root Bear.

Since 1963, the bear has not worn pants but that has all changed.

In an announcement, Rooty will now wear jeans.

Some corporations are taking advantage of the over-the-top coverage on candies and the message they are sending.
