Police are investigating a shooting at a Super 8 motel in northern Minnesota that left three people fatally shot on Monday night, including a suspected shooter.
According to the Cloquet Police Department, a Super 8 employee called 911 at around 6:30 p.m., reporting that another employee at the motel had been attacked.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound who was taken to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth, where she was pronounced dead.
After canvassing the area, they then found a 35-year-old man in a car in the parking lot who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and a 32-year-old man dead outside on the hotel’s property who reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was found next to him.
The release from the police department shared that no motive was known at this time, and a connection between the victims was not clear. The investigation remains ongoing.
Chris Korby, a worker at a nearby Arby’s restaurant, shared with the Duluth News Tribune that the situation was frightening and that his restaurant shut down their lobby after being alerted to the active shooting.
“It’s a little nerve-wracking definitely when your life is on the line and you don’t know who it is,” Korby said. “So they could definitely walk in at any time or come to the drive-thru, you don’t know.”
