President Joe Biden’s approval rating has continued to drop, as a recent poll found that 56% of Americans aren’t happy with the job he is doing.

The poll, released on Monday by NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ, found that 56% of respondents say they somewhat or strongly disapprove of how Biden is handling his job, while 44% said they somewhat or strongly approve.

The poll comes as Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) announced that he is running for the Democratic nominee, challenging the president for the right to be on the ballot in 2024.

Phillips has teased the idea of running for president for some time, often sharing that Biden should be challenged, with his age being a main concern for both Republicans and Democrats.

Still, Phillips is fighting an uphill battle by challenging the president, as the poll found that 85% of Democrats approve of Biden’s job as president, compared to 40% of independents and 10% of Republicans.

As for how different demographics feel, the pollsters found that Biden had his highest approval marks among younger Americans, as 48% of those 18 to 34 approved of him, compared to 45% of those 35 to 55 and 42% of those 55 and older.

The poll falls in line with others that show Biden’s approval rating could use some work ahead of the 2024 election, which will likely be a 2020 rematch with former President Donald Trump, despite Phillips challenging the president.

A recent Gallup poll had Biden’s overall approval rating dipping a little lower, sitting at 37%, which is a personal low.

The poll from NewsNation also noted that 60% of Americans think the country is headed in the wrong direction and that inflation is still a major issue.

The NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll was conducted from Oct. 23-24 and included responses from 1,000 registered voters. There is a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
