The Brooklyn Center police officer who shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop has been identified by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Officer Kim Potter is a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Potter is on administrative leave.
The Minnesota BCA did not release any more information about the officer per their policy during investigation.
Around 2:00p.m. Sunday, police shot a man during a traffic stop. The man who was shot is identified as Daunte Wright. Officers found out that the Wright had an outstanding warrant and attempted to flee the scene. An officer fired their gun and struck the driver. The driver was able to drive for several blocks before hitting another car.
The officer-involved shooting sparked outrage and protests around the scene. Some protests quickly turned violent as police cars were damaged at the scene.

On Monday night, President Joe Biden urged calm in Brooklyn Center and the Twin Cities in the wake of the killing.
The president said he watched the body-camera video of the shooting, which he called graphic.
"The question is, was it an accident? Was it intentional? That remains to be determined."
