They're not running against each other in any election, but Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom have agreed to face off in a televised debate.

The war of the words, announced Monday by Fox News, is set to be staged November 30th in Georgia.

An exact location for the 90-minute "red vs. blue state debate" has not yet been determined. Conservative host Sean Hannity has been tapped to moderate the event, per Fox.

Newsom agreed to participate under the condition that Fox doesn't air any "hype videos" during the event, according to his spokesman, Nathan Click.

"We want a real debate," Click told the Associated Press. "Not a circus."

This will mark the first time the two prominent governors will face off in a debate.

"I'm looking forward to providing viewers with an informative debate about the everyday issues and governing philosophies that impact the lives of every American," Hannity said.

Newsom first challenged DeSantis to a debate in September 2022, after the Florida governor sent two planes of migrants to Martha's Vineyard. In June, Newsom told Hannity that he was "all in" to debate DeSantis at any time.

DeSantis officially signed on to participate in July, saying he welcomed the chance to contrast his conservative policies with the liberal ones pushed by Newsom.

DeSantis, who is seeking the Republican Party nomination's for president, said he is "[looking] forward to the opportunity to debate Gavin Newsom over our very different visions for the future of our country."

Newsom has yet to comment on the debate.
