NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Donald Trump isn't letting Gen. Colin Powell -- who died Monday at age 84 from complications from COVID-19 after battling cancer -- rest in peace.

The former president issued a largely sarcastic statement Tuesday morning that disgusted many in the Twittersphere, for its attack on a dead man, let alone a man who served his country.

"Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media," Trump said. "Hope that happens to me someday."

Trump added that Powell "was a classic RINO [Republican In Name Only], if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans"

He concluded with, "He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!"

Trump's statement was blasted by many on Twitter, including Bill Clinton's former press secretary Joe Lockhart.

"This subhuman got 74 million votes in the last election," Lockhard tweeted. "Can someone explain it to me? Explain it to me like I'm a third grader."

And former Republican congressman Joe Walsh tweeted, "Defend this statement, ANY Republican. Please. Try."
