A flight attendant was found dead inside a hotel room at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott on Monday night, leading to an investigation by police.

The flight attendant, who was only identified as a 66-year-old, was discovered by cleaning staff at the hotel at around 10:45 p.m. She was found deceased with a sock in her mouth.

NBC News reported that the flight attendant worked for American Airlines.

The airline shared a statement with the media outlet, saying it was “devastated by this news.”

“Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure all affected have the support they need during this difficult time,” the statement continued. “We will continue to cooperate fully with local law enforcement in their investigation.”

Investigators canvassed the room and shared that there weren’t any signs of forced entry, no signs of a struggle, and no weapons were found.

ABC7 reported that several sealed bottles of prescription drugs were found inside the hotel room.

The woman’s cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy has been scheduled to find out how she died.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
