A Florida man successfully fended off four home invaders when he fired off a few rounds from “an AK-47 style gun,” according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred just before midnight on July 7 and was caught on surveillance video (shown above). Two of the four have been arrested, but the other two remain at large, according to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons.

Simmons revealed that the man in the home originally tried to fend off the invaders, at least one of whom was armed, with a handgun but had it wrestled away from him. Then he escaped to a different room of the house and retrieved the heavier firepower.

“The homeowner went and got an AK-47-style gun and he started shooting for his own protection to get them out of his house and to protect himself,” Simmons said.

Simmons also said the homeowner would not be charged with a crime.

“So those of you who might ask the question, ‘Is the homeowner going to be charged for shooting at these people?’ Absolutely not. The homeowner is protecting himself and in Florida, in Escambia County, you can protect yourself,” Simmons said.

Da’Torrance Hackworth, 20, has been charged with use/display of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny, grand theft of a firearm, and robbery/home invasion with a firearm.

Antonio Dewayne Dean Jr., 18, has been charged with use/display of a firearm during a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny, grand theft of a firearm, and robbery/home invasion with a firearm

As for the other suspects, one has been identified by police as Joseph Roman Sanders. The other, circled in the footage above, remains unidentified.

Authorities ask that anyone with information on their whereabouts contact 850-436-9620 or call Crime Stoppers at 850-433-STOP.
